Welcome Message from Principal Grosso

Dear Smith Community,

It is with great pleasure that I am able to serve you and your children as the educational leader at Helen I. Smith. Helen I. Smith students are actively engaged in the learning process as readers, writers, mathematicians, scientists, artists, historians, and musicians. They develop a love of learning through projects and experiences that are relevant to their world. Problem solving skills and critical thinking are encouraged through an inquiry-based approach to education.

Helen I. Smith teachers establish rigorous academic expectations and maintain high standards for student work. Children learn to effectively communicate information, ideas and opinions through written, oral and artistic expression. We recognize students' diverse learning styles and use developmentally appropriate teaching practices including cooperative learning, individual instruction and small group work. As a community of learners, the Helen I. Smith staff is committed to supporting our educational philosophy, vision and goals.

We believe that students thrive when they are known personally by their peers, their teachers, and by the entire school community. As members of this caring community, Helen I. Smith students feel a sense of belonging and strength.

If ever you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. I encourage you to stop by the office to say hello or share any concern or question you may have. My door is always open and I look forward to partnering with you in your child's education.

Anthony M. Grosso
